Assessor Notice: Senior, Veteran, & Disabled Property Tax Forms

The Jarvis Township Assessor’s Office recently mailed copies of the Senior Citizens Homestead Freeze Exemption to local seniors. Senior citizens whose total household annual gross income (AGI) is $75,000 or less may qualify (detail instructions available upon request).

“The Illinois General Assembly raised the limits for the senior homestead exemption for 2026, 2027, and 2028, meaning more seniors are likely eligible than in recent years,” said Jarvis Township Assessor Pam Mumper, CIAO-I. “We are spreading the word and hoping more seniors will complete and return the form by the July 31, 2026 deadline.”

Additionally, new forms are available at the Jarvis Township Assessor’s Office at 112 North Main Street in downtown for the following property tax relief programs:

  • Disabled Veteran: This is an annual reduction for a primary residence occupied by a veteran with at least a 30% service-connected disability or in some cases the veteran’s surviving spouse.
  • Notice of Eligibility for Senior Citizen Tax Deferral: Seniors Citizens whose total household income is $55,000 or less may defer their real estate taxes to a later date.  This is done through a loan from the Department of Revenue. Please contact the Madison County Treasurer’s Office at 618-692-6260.
  • Disabled Person: This annual reduction is eligible for a primary residence occupied by a person with a class 2 or 2a disability on January 1 of the assessment year.
